Is there anything more prehistorically beautiful than a fern waking up after 6 months of cold, rain and damp.
Feels a bit like that for all of us on this first sunny warm day for months here on the south coast….

Here we have Dicksonia antarctica (soft tree fern) unwrapped a few weeks ago after risk of frost had passed in one of our regular after care gardens. Their octopus tentacle like fronds stretching out and looking for light.

Did you know- the trunk of a tree fern is all root, this is enables them to be cut down and moved without being potted. Subject to re-planting in the right location new fronds will appear and the plant will bounce back. Amazing sun tropical structure, at home in both contemporary and woodland settings. 🌿

Bringing to light the human element here with concept imagery for one of our latest projects. This woodland scheme utilises a mixture of dark hardscape materials and boundary treatments to provide the backdrop for plants like Persicaria, Pachysandra and Dicksonia antarctica to shine all punctuated with Sorbus for a splash of seasonal colour. Luxurious and simple.
